How do I say:

"I am sorry for my poor french, but it is good for me to practice"

Is it correct to say:
"Je suis desolee pour mon francais mauvais, mais il est bon que je pratique"

Or is this awkward?

Basically, I want to tell the TI in Provence that I'm writing an email to them in French because I want to practice (even though they probably speak english)

Or is it that annoying? should I just apologize for not speaking french and just write in English?
thanks!
