This is an interesting subject. I don't know much about the history of languages. Does anyone know what the first known languages were? Very Happy

I'm not sure, but isn't French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese all from the Latin?

French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Rumenian derive from Latin.
For this reason they are called neolatin languages.
Also in english there are a lot of words that derive from latin even if it is
an anglo-saxon language.

Hello, I'm originally from Germany, son of immigrant that moved to Québec, I fluently speak English, French and German. French is among with Spanish and Italian, and a few other languages, based from Latin. English is a Germanic language, so is Dutch(which has had a lot of influence from former conquerers, the French, Spanish), Swedish, Norwegian, Danish. They are all germanic languages. Only Finnish is quite unknown to me.

All languages derive from Latin. "Latin is the root of languages" as they say. English is mostly from Germanic languages. And, of course, throughout the years, it has adopted words from various languages. French is derived from Latin.
