you can say "ça va" on first meeting with someone, but I have never been able to say anywhere but in France that I was "enchanté".

I thought this was mostly used by men to women, but I guess I was wrong ?

something that I have never been sure enough to use is "tant pis".

some help or discussion about this would be appreciated.

enchanté is not really used, it's a bit outdated. Actually it sounds very polite.

You can used it as follows:
- Je m'appelle GeneralTom
- Je m'appelle Julien. Enchanté de faire votre connaissance (I am very pleased to meet you)

Tant pis. Different possibilities.

- Finalement je ne peux pas aller au cinéma avec toi
- Tant pis

--> in that case, tant pis means "It's not a big deal"

or: tant pis pour lui (par exemple)
Could mean "sorry but he deserves what is happening to him" or "he's making a wrong decision but he will be paying the consequences" or "the hell with him, I have to make a decision"
Depends on context and the way you say it, I can't provide you with a general translation
