No 1 August 3rd 1997. Welcome to the Championship.

Welcome to Värmland, the land of wild animals.
Moose

The moose (elk), bear and wolf are the kings in the big forests that covers most of the country side.
Värmland also is famous for its authors and the ability of all inhabitants to tell stories of all kinds.
Many of you pro-bably have heard of Selma Lagerlöf, the Nobel prize winner in literature.
You may even have read one of her novels.
The stories and fairy tales mentioned above are mostly told in front of the open fire places on dark, cold winter nights.
Specially in olden days, when the snow and the cold make travelling difficult and you had to stay indoors, maybe together with your nearest neighbours, this cultural form flourished.
The more fantastic content the better story.

Introduction to CISM

CISM logo

CISM (Conseil International du Sport Militaire) was the third world-wide sporting organization to be founded. The American General Pershing was first to have the idea of bringing military sporting competitions to an international level, organizing the first intra-allied Games at the

end of the First World War.
Then another American, General MacNazny, launched in 1945 the AFSC (Allied Forces Sport Council) organizing some military sporting competitions. About two years later, on February 1st 1948 at Cannes, two French officers (Commandant H. Debruy and Captain E. Petit) and a Belgian officer (Lieutenant R. Mollet) decided to reorganize military sporting competitions.
CISM was founded on February 18th 1948, in France, on the initiative of Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, and France.
The goal of CISM was to establish permanent relations in sport and physical education among Armed Forces of the World.
Commandant Debruy was the first President and Lieutenant Mollet the General Secretary.
In 1951, the adherent nations were already 20. From 1948 till now the membership number increased to achieve the present 114 member countries and in the meantime, CISM initiatives have multiplied. It has organized almost all world and regional military competitions, it has promoted many seminars to spread military sport knowledge, improve techniques and training programs, attend to competitions, coach preparation, provide athletes with training programs and above all establish a common sporting spirit.
