Opening Ceremony

Supreme Commander Owe Wiktorin

Supreme Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces General Owe Wiktorin

As Supreme Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces I have the honour and the pleasure to welcome you to Sweden and the 45th CISM Championships in Military Pentathlon.
It is with pride and pleasure that the Swedish Armed Forces and the Värmland Brigade have received the charge to organise these Championships.
Sweden has before had the honour seven times. When the Championships were organised here in Kristinehamn 1977, twenty years ago, 14 nations participated.
About 30 nations are now competing in these 1997 Championships and the Championships have been increased with female competitors and a relay race.
It shows how the Military Pentathlon has developed but also how the member nations of CISM have increased.
It is my very strong opinion that military sport is of great importance both to encourage the military physical training and to

physical training and to create a high spirit among soldiers.
Military Pentathlon is one of the most typical military sports and also the oldest one in CISM and one of the toughest.
But the most important is that we can meet and fight on sport arenas.
In my opinion the CISM sporting competitions are essential parts in creating mutual understanding and friendship between nations, Armed Forces and members of the Armed Forces.
We want to do our best to give you a worthy and sportsmanlike frame and furthermore we want to give you an interesting and agreeable stay in our country.
We look forward to a fair and exciting competition between good sportsmen.
I will also say a special welcome to the CISM Representative Major General Fang Liangqing from China.
Once again heartily welcome and good luck!

The last trainingday is over!

Quntus wish you all the best of luck !!!!!

Colonel Tommy Johansson

Officer in charge of the 45th Military Pentathlon Military World Championship 1997 Colonel Tommy Johansson

I hope that by now You have got acquainted with the garrison of Kristinehamn and that You are going to enjoy Your stay here during the competitions.
CISM is a French abbreviation, which actually means the International Military Sports Federation, or as it says in the original language: Conseil Inter-national du Sport Militaire. The motto of the Federation is "Friendship through sport". Following this motto the competitions start today.
What has been prepared for years will now become visible, both for organisers and participants.
Before the competitions get started there is always a certain nervousness.
We cross our fingers that everything will run smoothly.
The shooting competitions will be held at the shooting ranges of the garrison.
